The African Luxury Market
The luxury goods revenue in Africa is expected to reach € 2 billion by the end of 2015, an indication that there is a wealth of opportunities for luxury goods and services in the continent. The growth for African HNWI wealth increased by 11.5%, to a total wealth of $1.3 trillion, 1.5% above the global average. The number of billionaires in Africa is expected to grow by 117% over the next decade, the second-fastest regional rate of growth in the world after Asia. The UBS World Ultra Wealth Report by Wealth X revealed that Africa’s Ultra High Net Worth population increased by 9.5% with a combined worth of $350 billion in 2013, a 7.7% rise from 2012.
The South African Luxury Market
South Africa has 48 700 High Net Worth Individuals with a combined wealth of $200 billion accounting for 35% of SA’s total individual wealth of $570 billion. SA’s HNWI’s outperformed the worldwide HNWI average during the review period of 2007 – 2013 with SA HNWI numbers increasing by 74% whistle worldwide HNWI volumes declined by 0.3%. South Africa is also home to 5000 UHNWI with an average wealth of R1.098 billion per person. Over the 4 year forecast period, the number of SA’s HNWI’s is projected to grow by 28% to reach over 62 40 in 2017.
