A Disruptive Technology by Jeff Hunter
By definition a disruptive technology is an innovation that creates a new market and value network and disrupts an existing market and value network, eventually displacing established market leading firms, products and alliances or stated another way, they are advances that will transform life, business, and the global economy.
A few examples include the mobile Internet, autonomous vehicles, and advanced robotics.
The relentless parade of new technologies is unfolding on many fronts, almost every advance billed as a breakthrough, and the list of “next big thing” grows ever larger. Although not every emerging technology will alter the business or social landscape, but some truly do have the potential to disrupt the status quo, alter the way people live and work, and rearrange value pools.
The majority of you reading this article understand then the risk / reward associated with these types of technology investments but also the desire to be a part of new exciting technology advances not only to reap the ROI rewards but having the satisfaction knowing you impacted people's lives, business and the economy whether little or great.
Having said all this I present to you another technology that I believe is disruptive as any currently listed as the "next big thing" with even a greater impact on the environment, business and the economy. Bold statement? Sure, but you will have the opportunity to decide for yourself and I'm betting you will agree. So what is this technology? Well it has to do with rubber, not the virgin type used to make tires, gaskets, car parts and a host of other necessities in life but the reuse of such products.
You see current technology does not allow us to recycle rubber into new products because to do so causes the rubber to Depolymerize rendering the polymer into a monomer which as you may guess destroys the rubber making it useless to manufacturers. I did simplify the actual process in order to keep your attention and not bore you with the details which you can research for yourself if you so choose.
The introduction of a German company that has actually recycled used rubber into a fine or granular "virgin" rubber at significantly lower cost than actual new virgin rubber stands to be that next disruptive technology.
Devulcanisation without Depolymerisation of waste rubber is a reality, but why have you not heard of this great discovery? Well there is a simple answer - Politics and a long story which I will not discuss here, because one could write a novel. The implications are massive and I hope you will share this article in order to bring this technology to fruition.
